I don’t know about you, but I have been glued to my TV every night for the past week. I’ve been going to bed way too late for my own good, but I can’t get enough of the Olympics!
My love for the Olympics began in the Summer of 1996 when I was seven years old and living in Atlanta, which happened to be the site of the Centennial Olympic Games. My family got to go to events such as men’s gymnastics, cycling, marathon, and tennis, and also got to see our city transformed into a host for the world’s greatest athletes. I loved the competition, the national pride, the incredible athleticism, the breaking of records, the world brought together for one huge event. Since my first Olympic experience, I look forward to the Olympics every few years with intense anticipation.
Now the Olympics are in London – in my mind, the greatest combination possible. London is my favorite place in the world, and I can’t wait to go back in 5 (!!!) days with Rob to see these Games in person. We’ll be attending the Men’s Basketball Semi-final and the Men’s Beach Volleyball Final, and hopefully catching some of the Marathon as it meanders through the entire city.
One of my favorite parts of the Olympics is the pure joy that is displayed when athletes’ training, discipline, and perseverance pays off to earn them a gold medal. Here are some of my favorite photos from the Games so far that beautifully display this joy! (Check out all the photos in this post and more at NBC.)
Their joy makes me joyful!
What’s your favorite part of the Olympics?
