Sunsets at Carter Mountain

During the summer and early fall, Carter Mountain stays open til 8:30pm on Thursdays! Tonight is actually the last one of the year. You can pick your own fruit, shop in their Country Store, grab some apple cider donuts (freshly baked!), and cider. There’s also dinner available from their Mountain Grill and wine tastings at the Carter Mountain Wine Shop. Relax on the two large overlook decks (or bring your own blanket for the lawn like we did) to listen to live music and catch an amazing sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This was the first chance we had to spend a Thursday evening at Carter Mountain, but we are so glad Rob’s school schedule allowed it! It was such a peaceful way to unwind, and the view was just stunning. We ate our apple cider donuts and sipped apple cider on our blanket at the edge of the mountain, watching as the sky’s beautiful colors turned into an incredible starry night. Obviously, quite romantic, but there were lots of groups of families, “girls’ night out,” and other couples. We even ran into a Darden family we are getting to know (their toddler was loving it!).

I can’t think of a better Fall night!
