Halloween is just over a week away, though I hate to admit — I’ve hardly spent any time thinking about the holiday itself. Both Rob and I have been so busy that Halloween has fallen to the bottom of our list. We don’t even have plans to dress up! So unlike us.
Most years, Halloween is one of my favorite days. Since I was little, I’ve always loved the thrill of dressing up as something or someone other than myself for a night. My mom always made my costumes, ranging from a flower to a devil. Then there was about a 5-year streak where I was a “dancer” using things I pulled out of my dress-up box, and of course, lots of make-up. Great memories :).
Even in college, my friends and I had so much fun dressing up for the infamous Halloween on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, where some 60,000 people flock to show off their costumes on one night. One year I was a burrito, and then for our senior year, my group of girls all dressed up as a certain type of Barbie (I was “Artist Barbie”).
A couple years ago was one of my favorites — Rob and I were Woody and Jessie from Toy Story. My mom helped us sew a cow-hide vest and my cow-hide chaps, then I embellished an old white button-down with yellow fabric and red Sharpie. I think those outfits will stand out in my memory for many, many years!
What are some of your favorite Halloween costumes from years past? What are you dressing up as this year?
